A bit of a gray winter’s day and you could feel snow in the air as the group gathered at Miniature Market Cave Springs for our Thursday Semi Regular Retirees Game. This week was a work up game for the coming Reindeer Wars Celebration of Games that we enjoyed between Christmas and New Year’s. So a bit of testing for balance, resemblance to the historical event and rules refresher for the GM and players.

Using “The Song of Drums and Tomahawks” with some new measurement devices from Litko the players found the need to balance what they wanted to do with the realities of what their dice rolls for success on activation allowed them to do.
Steve T playing the Loyalists vs Steve L and Greg D playing the Patriots in what would be called the snow campaign of 1775 in the opening rounds of the American War of Independence. The Patriots had sent supplies to the Cherokee hoping to curry some favor only to have those supplies intercepted by the Loyalists. Taking some exception to that occurrence the Patriots gathered a few of the boys and set out to recover their stolen goods. Thus the stage was set for a bit of a mix up. Unplanned by both parties was a fierce winter storm that dumped a whole bunch of the white stuff in the middle of things.

Steve L brought on his group with a plan to set up in a wood line and engage in musketry.

Caught by surprise the Loyalists scurry for the exits as they come under fire from both Steve and Greg.

That big bonfire was sure warm, but it’s time to beat feet before the Rebels get a chance to aim much better. Already the Loyalists have taken one loss on the wagon as Steve L scored a hit knocking out the driver.

Set up in the tree line and firing away. The cold must have gotten to the troops as accuracy simply wasn’t there today.

The Loyalists make good their escape with one wagon and 2 of their five troopers. Left behind were three troopers and two wagons recovered by the Rebels along with a nice bonfire to warm themselves.

Thanks to the players who not only gave the scenario a good run through but offered some valuable suggestions. Thanks also to the fine folks at Miniature Market Cave Springs for their continued support.
