History Through A Different Lens!

This Autumn our Game Day West

for September through December will coincide with the classes at St. Charles County Community College taught by our member Mark Williams.

We have invited his two classes to join us at our themed Game Days to see history through the different lens of table top miniature gaming. Our Game Masters are contributing to this effort by  presenting games focusing within the assigned periods and we are hoping the students will take advantage of this “extra credit” opportunity for their classes.

With this in mind,

we ask that our GMs and regular attendees help to be sure that the students get first crack at the game slots so that they can play to complete their assignments.

We very much need our regular players to help coach the students who are generally unfamiliar with our hobby, the history being presented and gaming in general.

This is a great opportunity to reach beyond our normal group of players, share our hobby with others, help some young folks with their education and just do some good.

Your help is greatly appreciated in seeing this project succeed.

The Battle of Ashdown 8 January 871.

The Battle of Ashdown was a West Saxon victory over a Danish Viking army on about 8 January 871. The location of Ashdown is not known, but may be Kingstanding Hill in Berkshire. Other writers place the battle near Starveall, a short distance north of the village of Aldworth and south east of Lowbury Hill.

The West Saxons were led by King Æthelred and his younger brother, the future King Alfred the Great, while the Viking commanders were Bagsecg and Halfdan. The battle is described in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle and Asser‘s Life of King Alfred. Hail Caesar Rules Kevin Fitzpatrick GM

Support the Retailers that Support Us!

It is important to remember that we greatly benefit from our local gaming retail community being able to use their space mostly at no charge for our public events. It is only fair that we should whenever possible make purchases from them whenever we can do so.

Buying a soda or your snacks on-site rather than carrying something in may not seem like much but it makes a statement that we are trying to buy here to do our share.

Picking up your paints, brushes and such for your figs, some new dice, card sleeves or accessories adds a little to the cash drawer.

We are coming up on the gift giving time of year and a new board game for the family to play over the holidays is always a nice thing.

Game Organizers Working Group

We have had two highly successful meetings of our newly formed Game Organizers Working Group coordinating our group’s efforts on both sides of the Big Muddy.  This group will be meeting on a roughly monthly basis prior to our Game Day East to keep solid lines of communications on projects, events and opportunities for our gaming community. If you are interested in helping or submitting a game for any of our various weekly or monthly game days simply send an email to info@bmhga.com and it will be forwarded to the appropriate member(s).

2026 Game Masters

We are planning into 2026 with games scheduled for January and February

already in the works and it is the intention of the Working Group to plan our calendar 6 months in advance in 2026.

If you are thinking about running a game we encourage you to get it into our organizers so that we can get it on the calendar.

 Send it to info@bmhga.com

and it will be forwarded to the appropriate organizer for the Game Day requested.

Remember that early in the year is the

perfect time to give a scenario that

you are planning for

Barracks Battles @ DieCon a run through.

AWI 250 Project

Our Working Group has based upon a superb suggestion from Dave Schaffner put forth the following challenge to our GMs both East and West to celebrate the 250th Anniversary of the American War of Independence by chronicling by year battles of the AWI.

Kicking off this effort will be

The Battle of the Great Cane Brake

South Carolina 22 December 1775

as part of our Reindeer Wars Celebration of Gaming between the holidays.

Grab your historical research books and let’s discover together some of the lesser known and more unique battles of the year 1776. Skirmishes, Raids, Land Based, Naval, Large Actions, East, West, North, South are all welcome.

Weekly Gaming E-Update

There is a lot of gaming going on each week here in the metro area beyond our monthly game days. Each week we send out an update with the latest information on the upcoming events for the week.

If you would like to have it arrive in your inbox just email info@bmhga.com

If you are holding a game in a public space that you would like to be included in the Weekly Gaming Update  just email info@bmhga.com with the details and it will be added to the list.
