‘Tis the Season for Turkey and our Retirees Game featured an appropriate scenario to just that end with The Great Turkey Hunt retooled to use Fistful of Lead Horse & Musket Rules from the previous from rule set used last year. Steve L (COUREUR DE BOIS), Steve T (Rogers Rangers) and Bill D (Chippewa) all commanded a force of five troopers or warriors on a mission to put a turkey on their leaders table.

The scenario required them to move across the cold snowy fields to search for the elusive birds in the groupings of underbrush. Upon entering each area they could choose to make a D10 roll and check to see just what they might come across in the woods. The roll would determine if anything was found and just what that might be.

Bill was a bit unlucky here when the hoped for turkey looked just a whole lot more like a wolf won the initiative and attacked this poor warrior.

After giving Bill a tough way to go this wounded and shaken wolf makes a retreat heading for a nearby woods.

Steve T was the only one to find a turkey and he came across two of them. The first one can be seen at the very top of the table by the tree making its escape after Steve was unlucky that bird number one slipped away.

Both Bill and Steve T were unfortunate enough to find bears in their searches and this one attacked leading to the demise of the warrior.

Steve T came across another bird that at first escaped but then he was able to drop, The position could have been a bit better as it ended up in a bit of a No Man’s Land between Steve L’s COUREUR DE BOIS and Steve T’s Rogers Rangers. This lead to a concerted effort on both of their parts to race to the fallen turkey with many a musket shot and melee to ensue. In the end The Rangers with a numerical superiority were able to overcome the Coureur’s depleted force securing the turkey (which by now was well tenderized from being dropped so many times) and the Rangers ate hearty this night.

At our second table Kurt Linke did a walk through session of Naval Thunder WWII Naval Rules running the Battle of the Denmark Strait with Pat L and Mark W facing off. It turned into a bad day for the Hood and Bismarck with both sliding beneath the waves. Kurt will be running this one again soon with a few more ships on each side.
