Big Muddy Historical Gaming Alliance – St. Louis November Game Day East 11/17/24

Game Day East was held at the luxurious setting of Impact Game Center in Fairview Heights, IL on Sunday 11/17/24 with two featured games to treat our players.

First was a look at one of the newer releases from Warlord Games, Achtung Panzer! This World War II based game is one of tank on tank skirmishes where players command a few armored fighting vehicles, managing their crew to move, acquire targets, load rounds, aim and get off a shot before their opponents. All done with hopes of hitting the target and creating havoc for their foes.

Les Hostetler guided the players through the paces of this new system as T-34/76s and 85s (Jon & Craig) took on a mixed force of Pz IV’s and a Tiger (AJ and Steve).

The day went to the Soviets with them taking advantage of both terrain, better shooting and a bit of luck as the game progressed.

The second game was a trip to the French & Indian War as Roger’s Rangers Adam), Iroquois(Steffan & Bill) and Courer Du Bois (Ray) all headed out to the woods in search of a turkey for the officer’s mess in The Great Turkey Hunt using Fistful of Lead Horse and Musket rules.

Our four players moved out as ordered searching the clumps of woods hoping for the elusive bird to bring back to their officers. After some initial cautious moves as the groups deployed things took on a more challenging tone with the searches bringing up a few wolves and a couple of bears (which usually ended badly for the hunters).

Eventually a group of Iroquois came across a bird that promptly fled from their field of fire and straight towards Roger’s Rangers. This was followed by a search that led one of the tribe to be sprayed by a skunk before he pursued the bird only to find himself a casualty from an accurate Ranger shot from the woods.

The Rangers then made off with the bird and were first to get off the table scoring a victory.

The game continued with the remaining players hoping for a turkey to be found and find one they did leading to the battle of the bird as two groups of Iroquois and Courer Du Bois all headed to the scene either running with the bird (which was dropped more than once) or in hot pursuit. Shots were exchanged melees ensued until just one Native American was left standing becoming “The Last of the Iroquois” (Adam filling in for Bill who needed to leave early) looking back on the trail of fallen comrades and opponents who all tried unsuccessfully for the prize which he now held.

Good fun with a good set of rules!

Thanks to all the players who joined us today for Game Day East and a special Thank You to our gracious hosts at Impact Game Center just across I-64 from Fairview Heights Shopping Mall at 49 Ludwig Drive.
