Our October Game Day East featured two games focused (mostly) on American History. First up was a spectacular presentation by Steffan Gluck using Fistful of Lead Rules and venturing to downtown WWII as it was seen in the comic books with Sargent Rock and his pals from Easy Company on a secret mission ripped from the pages of DC Comics.
Steffan not only presented a great looking skirmish game but was kind enough to send in both a scenario description and a follow on report of how the game progressed so we will turn it over to him for a play by play……Pre game description

Introduction
“Sgt. Rock and Easy Company have been tasked with going behind enemy lines to capture the head of a top-secret weapons program, Dr. Friedrich Reichmann. The intel for this mission is in short supply, but it points to the development of another Nazi “Wonder Weapon”. Considering Easy Company’s recent run-ins with the strange and unusual, it’s safe to assume this mission will be no different. Good luck Easy Company!”

Objectives
“Americans – The Americans claim victory if they capture Dr. Reichmann. He will surrender if he’s the only remaining German or if he fails a recovery roll.
“Putting the doctor “Out of Action” will only give the Americans a minor victory”
“Germans – The Germans claim victory if they force the Americans to retreat or if they put them all “Out of Action”.”

Special Rules
“Special Order – A CLE canister containing silver ammunition, among other supplies, was parachuted into the area as an insurance policy from Uncle Sam.”
“Werewolves – This top-secret weapons program is turning men into wolves. Three of the German soldiers have been turned into werewolves. It’s not important to denote which ones are werewolves. As part of their activation, a German soldier can use both his actions to transform into a werewolf.”

The Game Report
“The Germans, played by Craig and Steve, chose to spread out on the first and second floors of the inn while the Americans, played by Raymond, John, and AJ, chose to attack the inn from multiple directions, starting within the forest and moving out. A CLE canister with silver bullets dropped outside the forest in front of Sgt. Rock’s team. His team moved to secure the canister but were almost entirely eliminated after a few rounds of continuous fire from the second floor by Dr. Reichmann’s team. Sgt. Rock’s team fired at the threat but only rattled them. Sgt. Rock is put out of action, but being who he is, isn’t killed.”

“Dozer’s team moved up to the back of the inn outside of the stable where Commander Witt’s men had already started moving into position to counterattack. The two teams traded fire then clashed in melee for a few rounds. Dozer and most of his team were eliminated while Commander Witt’s team only suffered a couple of casualties.”

“On the other side of the inn, Skipper’s team was late to the action, but reached the inn, went up the stairs to the second floor and traded fire with Dr. Reichmann’s team. Skipper himself was moved into the lower floor where Commander Witt’s men had just left. Four Eyes, the sniper on Skipper’s team, was moved into position to cover the rest of the team assaulting the building. He is counter sniped by a rifleman on the second floor from Dr. Reichmann’s team. After a short firefight between Skipper’s team and Dr. Reichmann’s team on the second floor, neither team suffers casualties.”
“At the end of the game, one German transforms into a large, white werewolf, but the creature never sees action.”

“In the end, the Germans claimed victory while the Americans retreated after heavy losses.”
“This was the first time out of several playthroughs that the werewolves weren’t needed, killed no one, and only one made an entrance.”

“Sgt. Rock was played by John, Dozer by Raymond, Skipper by AJ, Commander Witt by Steve, and Dr. Reichmann by Craig.”

Thanks to Steffan for this great report on the game We also would like to offer our Thanks to all the players who came out to enjoy a fun afternoon of gaming. As always we extend our ongoing appreciation to Impact Game Center for their continued support.

Big Muddy Historical Game Alliance of Greater St. Louis
Our public educational demonstrations including rules and game evaluation sessions use historical miniature and historical board gaming to explore military history, historical decision-making, and the people, places, and events of the past.
Historical Gaming in Action is a public educational program presented by the Big Muddy Historical Game Alliance of Greater St. Louis.

Using miniature figures, terrain, maps, historical research, and guided play, our games explore military history through the decisions faced by commanders, soldiers, and communities. Visitors can examine the table, ask questions, learn about the historical setting, and—when space and time permit—join the game.
Our scenarios are based on historical sources. While game rules simplify some details for practical play, each event is designed to encourage discussion of historical events, geography, leadership, logistics, strategy, and the human experience of conflict.
Historical gaming can be both enjoyable and educational. Big Muddy provides public educational demonstrations, seminars, and convention programming that promote historical miniature gaming and military history.
