Semi Regular Retirees Game 08/21/25 Cortez vs Aztecs

Steve Lowry brought something different to the table for our Semi Regular Retirees Game this week as we traveled to the Aztec Empire (Mark W and Steve T) during a visit by Hernán Cortés and his happy go lucky band of Conquistadors (Mark J and Chris K.) Our rules today were Fistful of Lead Bigger Battles which Steve adjusted to the scenario.

In order to get this one on the table in Steve’s signature 54mm there were considerable proxy figs coming out of Central Casting to fill the shoes of those needed for the battle.

Steve also did some considerable kit-bashing hand making stands of figs to cover those needed. Here we see some hand made Jaguar Soldiers for Team Aztec.

Aztec Eagle Warriors show more of Steve’s handmade forces.

The Aztec strategy was to not wait for the large force of Spanish to get to them, but rather to meet them head on and get into the thick of things.

The Aztecs on the move. We see units that have moved marked with a poker chip, shocked numbers recorded on dice and losses marek by rubber bands.

Steve T’s Eagle Warriors attack the artillery base. It was a bold move, that caught the Spanish off guard even if the Eagles paid dearly in the end.

The Aztec left has taken heavy losses with damaged units breaking and heading to the temple to recover.

With their ranks depleted and the better armed and armored Spanish still in great supply the Aztecs yielded the field.

Thanks to Steve Lowry for a fun and innovative game with some homemade and proxy figs showing that fun can easily be had without always spending a ton of cash. Spoiler alert even the temple boxes turned upside down were used to store figures for transport providing both some nice terrain and a second use.

Thanks.to all the players and to fine staff at Miniature Market Cave Springs for their continued support.
