Semi Regular Retirees Game 05/01/25 6mm ACW

The 6mm troops took to the field today on a different game mat but fighting over the Callahan Crossroads which was near the Randant Pond and the Blattel Creek in a meeting engagement using the free rules from Wofun Games.

The Union Greg D and Scott K faced off against the CSA under Mark W and Steve T each with a brigade to command. The CSA was infantry heavy while the Union had some beefy foot units but fewer of them in their mix of an artillery heavy force.

A smaller artillery force notwithstanding, Steve T managed a long range shot with his three batteries that defied statistics as we saw a blast of “6s” roll across the field dropping one Union Infantry Regiment to half strength in a single blow from his mighty cannons.

A Union blocking force under Greg D deployed to their right to hold off the advance of a of four Rebel Infantry Regiments trying to seize the road. The front regiment is in skirmish order as we tried out those parts of the advanced rules.

Again on the Union Right/Confederate Left the 11th Iowa held its own against the four regiments attacking it driving two of them to below half strength before succumbing to the determined attack. As the 11th and 13th Iowa were large units (and the units are not necessarily based for the Wofun Rules) we considered each stand as double sized. This gave the Union less maneuver units but some that could really take and deliver a beating.

From above on the Union Left/Confederate Right. Scott’s Union Cavalry unit occupies the crossroads backed up by 6 batteries of artillery as Mark’s Rebel infantry advance towards the Blattel Creek. Near the crossroads at the top of the photo you will see the Union rifled artillery deployed.

Hot action as the 4th CSA of the Generic Brigade engage Union skirmishers.

The game ended in what is likely a draw or a slight Rebel victory. With the Union right collapsing under the pressure of the assault it would free up a couple of infantry units to press on although is would be a long march to get there. The Union batteries, Cavalry and Infantry on the left had damaged the Rebels enough to make things difficult for them to make much of an advance. With a couple of average turns of concentrated artillery fire it was likely that the boys in gray would probably be puling back.

Thanks to all the players for helping to work through this set of rules, which are simple enough but with the added advance rules add in both options and nuances. Our Thanks to Miniature Market Cave Springs for their continued support.
