The French & Indian Wars in many cases fought over the wilderness of the Northwest Frontier. Small highly mobile forces such as Roger’s Rangers moved deep into enemy held territory to disrupt their opponents facing both Native Americans and the French In the most inhospitable surroundings. It was a time for hearty men to take up the task. But even those skillful woodland warriors gotta eat and hence we find ourselves at the Great Turkey Hunt.

The orders were clear to each of our players and their charges. “You are the low men in the camp and the officers want a turkey for their dinner.” So off went our six players (Pete, Craig, Eddie, Chris, Kurt and Jake) to search the woods and hopefully root out a bird before the others found one or something else found them.

Players were allowed to search each woods once per figure, with each requiring an action no matter where it came in the figures movement phase. If they were already in the woods a search would be just one action point. If it was after their second move, that search get much more costly in AP’s.
A search consisted of pulling a card with most being nothing found, but a Turkey would show up on the pull of an Ace. Other cards generated other wild animals. If something was found an initiative draw was required and if the animal won it would attack (except turkeys they just ran). Players winning initiative would give them the option of shooting or running.

This was a day where the cards were simply not very nice to the players. Low Action Point draws plagued everyone pretty equally. Eddie was the first and only to find a bird which lead to a fire fight and melee with Craig who was hoping to get in a quick grabbing of the poultry. Kurt found a wolf, then a bear that reduced his force by one before being dispatched. Chris and Jake came across a couple of wolves as did Pete.
Eddie after several rounds of combat made it off with the Turkey and his team ate good that night. The remainder of the folks limped home trying to explain themselves in the camp.
Thanks to all the players who joined in this holiday favorite and a Thank You to Miniature Market Rock Hill for their continued support.
