A good turnout for our Monthly August Game Day at Miniature Market Cave Springs.
First up was a run through/critique session of the Cahokia Farmstead scenario that will be part of the coming event at the St. Charles County Heritage Museum on October 19, 2024. This event as delineated in the just published article in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch is our attempt to bring local history to life as both an educational and an outreach opportunity for our region. To that end we are developing with the help of local Game Masters and supporting contributors five games that will be presented that day.
One of those games using “One Hour Skirmish Wargame Rules” is based upon the box art of the “Attack on Cahokia” board game by Steve Kling. This scenario envisions a small slice of the total battle as it might have developed with some British Native American Allies falling upon a few defenders at one of the numerous farm houses in the area on May 26, 1780.

Above we see Bob, Pete, Bryson & Eddie engaged in one of the five games we played during the afternoon.

It took until game five for the attacking forces to get to a place where things fell into place for them to have a chance to succeed. Which while certainly an uphill fight for the British seems just a bit out of kilter for what we are trying to achieve at the museum event. The game plays fast, but there doesn’t seem to be enough meat on the bones of the scenario to give the players a representative gaming experience which is exceptionally important for our efforts.

Based upon the comments from the players and watching these games over the last month or so we will be switching rule sets to “Fistful of Lead Horse and Musket” by Wiley Games of Independence, MO
A Big Thank You to Pete, Eddie, Bryson and Bob for giving this scenario using “One Hour Skirmish Wargame Rules” a good run through and critique session before we head off to event at the St. Charles Heritage Museum event in October it is critical that we iron out the kinks in our presentation for this event. We really want to have our best foot forward as we tie into the museum displays of the Battle of St. Louis and Attack on Cahokia. It is our hope to bring local history alive for those who attend the event and do so in the best way possible.
Also our Thanks to the fine staff at Miniature Market Cave Springs for their support.
