The heat of the desert and the heat of the game were combined together as Dave Schaffner led his group of players across the shifting sands in his Operation BattleAxe Game at our August Game Day.
We will let Dave tell us the story of the action……
“Battleaxe – Fighitng for a Frontier Strongpoint -“
“The scenario the guys fought hard over this past Sunday, I modeled on the attack for Pt. 207, one of the Stutzpunkt the Germans had prepared in June 1941, that I-tanks of 4 RTR assailed during the Battleaxe offensive.”
“Five intrepid armor gamers sweated out in this early desert action, that portrayed German combined-arms doctrine vs. the British lack thereof. The odd-mix of capabilities, panned out to make for a fun mixup.”
“Ultimately, the British players were able to gain a meaningful toehold into the German defenses, and when their following infantry would have arrived later (post-scenario), been able to consolidate their position.”
“The combatant tanks had fought their own battle, and under an umbrella of these flying shells, it was the light tanks and armored cars that would flank and penetrate into the German position.”
“The guys did real good – and said they had a great time – that’s a mission accomplished.”
