We gathered at Miniature Market Rock Hill for our weekly Semi Regular Retirees Game. This week was a trip to the Wild West(ern) with our scenario somewhat based upon the long ago “Tales of Wells Fargo” TV Series. Using Ganshea Games “Song of Drums and Tomahawks”rules we dove into the action.

For this episode we find: Whitewash City, Colorado Territory, 1870s. A Wells Fargo silver shipment waits in the yard behind the express office, watched over by Jim Hardie, Sheriff Amos Burke, two deputies, and a pair of grizzled miners. Outlaw Steve Lowry and the Connecticut Gang aim to steal the silver before the Denver train arrives and spirit it away into the hills.

The local Sisters were out trying to inform the public of the temptations of Demon Rum at one of the numerous watering holes in the town.
The Connecticut Gang (Steve L and Ravi, later DJ) had a couple of aces in the hole with two saboteurs sent out to cut the telegraph line and to slow the train’s approach to the town. These guys were not the best in a showdown, but knew their stuff in their fields of mis-endeavors.

Sometimes the available cover wasn’t exactly as desired.
The Connecticut Gang made their entrance to the town opposite the Hardware Store where the White Wash City Wells Fargo office was located. Using whatever structure was available to provide cover to their approach. Ravi shouted orders to two local farmers to move themselves and their collection of animals out of the way.

Meanwhile the defending team (Andrew B and Mark J) hurried about the business of loading up the nearby wagon with the silver to get it moving to the train pick up point. There is no station in WhiteWash City so it will just be a stop along the track for this shipment to load.

The powers that rule all things dice related were not smiling on the Connecticut Game this day and despite Steve’s best efforts initiative shifted far too often to the Wells Fargo team and their plans leaving the game rather unbalanced.

The Wells Fargo and Sheriff team took advantage of the wagon’s speed once loaded and got the silver out of reach of the dreaded Connecticut gang. Once the shipment was secured they turned their attention to the approaching bandits and the street was alive with flying lead.

The great street shoot out did not come out well for the outlaws.
Some great feedback from the players as to suggestions as to how to rebalance the scenario and tweak it to make it a bit more even. The GM would note that the players didn’t take much advantage of the moving terrain option which allowed them to use an activation to move the local citizens about the table. There was some use of the rule but possibly less than could have been to thwart the plans of the opposition.

Reports have been confirmed that although wounded the desperado Steve Lowry was able to escape. He is now recovering and word has it that he is reforming the Connecticut Gang for another run at the Silver in WhiteWash City.

Thanks to all the players who joined in and offered up some great ideas. Thanks also to Miniature Market Rock Hill for their continued support.

The streets return to quiet for now in WhiteWash City. For how long we just don’t know.
