Gathered at their respective aerodromes at Miniature Market Cave Springs our group took to the “not so friendly skies” over No-Man’s Land of World War I using “Wings of Glory” by Ares Games.

We were happy to be able to get in two game sessions with this now classic quick playing game system . The first scenario saw he Handley Page 0/400 (Steve L) of the Royal Flying Corps making an attack behind the German trench lines escorted by a single SE-5a (Mark J). Opposing this effort were a couple of Albatross Vs (Greg D and new player Josh), Fokker DR1 (Jay C) and a two seater (DJ). As we had several players unfamiliar with the game system we kept things to the basic rules for this scenario.

The Handley Page did make it to the target and successfully attacked it, but was caught on the way out with the dreaded “boom” card which finished it off.

Now more acquainted with the game rules we upped the difficulty level a notch and added in the standard rules with critical hits for a dawn patrol scenario. Steve L in a French two seater, escorted by Mark J in his trusty SE-5a vs the Albatrosses (Greg D and Jay C) with DJ switching to a differed two seater.

As we were working together to learn the rules in this part of the game as planes were shot down, the player were allowed to return to the action in the next full game turn at their map edge. This kept everyone in the game and let us understand the affects of the various critical hits as they came up. Machine gun jams, crew hits, rudder jams, smoke, fires and all were dealt with by the players.

With plans for an upcoming “Wings of Glory“ Mini Campaign game for the second half of the year we will be running this game system somewhat regularly at our Thursday and some Tuesday Night sessions.

Thanks to all the players who joined in for this enjoyable afternoon of gaming welcoming both Josh to the game and speaking with another player who stopped by interested in historical gaming.  Our Thursday afternoon games seem to regularly attract interest giving us a chance to talk with those unfamiliar with our group and part of the hobby.  Our weekly game days across the area are some of our best means to expose others to historical table top gaming and meet new players.

Thanks also to Miniature Market Cave Springs for their continued support.
