Big Muddy Historical Gaming Alliance – St. Louis May Game Day West  05/02/26 Battle of Freeman’s Farm, A Medieval Skirmish and much more….

Our streamlined May Game Day West was a big success and our group enjoyed two great games presented by Game Masters Dave Schaffner & Tim Lalk taking us back in time to the American Revolutionary War and Medieval days respectively.

Game Table One hosted by Dave Schaffner was a treat to behold for the players as they worked through this meeting engagement near Saratoga in 1777. Using “Muskets & Tomahawks” rules to control the action Dave presented a superlative game session with his always exquisite terrain and miniatures.

The Americans pulled this one out of the fire with a well timed and perhaps risky attack towards the end by Burt C. In a bit of a leader on leader duel.

After the table results were in Dave once again in his usual fashion generously shared some insights on modeling and figure storage with the group in his post game wrap up.

Table Two was all about Normans on a mission and a raid on a Saxon village hoping to score some loot. Presented by Tim Lalk using a somewhat modified version of “Fistful of Lead” rules system it was a wild and bumpy ride in this 15mm free for all.

As players in this area know “Fistful of Lead” is a great skirmish system that creates just the right amount of activation chaos on the table providing the players with a continuing series of challenges as they try to accomplish their objectives.  On this day the system achieved it’s goal of providing a rough and tumble game for the players that served to well represent the nature of medieval warfare.

A great feature of Tim’s table was the castle/fortress which occupied a corner of the table adding a nice visual adding to the experience for the players and passers by.

Our Game Day West Partners, St. Louis Historical Gaming Society featured two board games “Imperial Ellegy” providing a glimpse into Europe in the early 20th century and The ACW Battle of Chickamauga.

A bit of a special feature of the day was a visit by Sophie C, student at Parkway North who joined us to interview some of our group to gain some insights for  her history class project. It was gratifying that the members of our Education Working Group and other members who on short notice rose to the occasion to provide her with the requested information.

Special Thanks to Dave Schaffner, Tom Vielott, Mark Williams and Chris Ketcherside for their willingness to take some of their gaming time and help with this effort. We look forward to hearing from her about her project grade soon.

Thanks to Dave and Tim for presenting their games for the group and their dedication to making it come out well for all. A big Thank You to all the players for taking time to join in the challenges and fun. Our continued appreciation to Miniature Market Rock Hill for their for their support.

Remember to shop local.
