Semi Regular Retirees Game 01/29/26 Brian Boru High King of Ireland – Enhanced

Our Thursday Semi Regular Retirees Game at Miniature Market Rock Hill found our players visiting the Emerald Isle in the year 1000 as each made their best effort to lead their clans to be first amongst equals in controlling the island of Ireland.

This was our first run through with our greatly enhanced game kit featuring a board that relied heavily on the graphics talents of Dave Schaffner to expand and enlarge. Dave spent a good deal of time working on giving us a great game mat presentation for the players to enjoy.

Other parts of the kit were picked up from The Game Crafter giving all the game parts in a more 3D visual form as is the Viking long ship above.

Here we see an occupied town that has added a monastery to the mix. This doubles the town’s worth to the player for activation of the province and victory points. Other enhanced pieces are renown tokens, larger coins for the game currency and larger translucent tokens that are more inline with the much larger play mat.

Our players today were Andrew B, DJ and Ravi R. who ventured out on this still cold January day to help with our prep/learning game. This will be one of the games to be used in an upcoming “History Through Another Lens Initiative” events where college students will be using games to give them an alternate method of learning about an historical era or event.

The game played well with our group and despite a few items missed it was much better than our previous outing. The new enlarged version just being that much more fun to use.

Thanks to the players for their time and patience as we prepare to be at our best for the upcoming event and our continued Thanks to Miniature Market Rock Hill for their support.
