Tis’ The Season
The holidays hopefully bring out the best in us and sometimes the worst in others. It is the seasonof joy and of scams. Recently a member of our community found that one of his online financial accounts was compromised and he was lucky to avoid the loss of a substantial amount of money.
We all get numerous calls each day offering us extended car warranties, medicare plans, final expense insurance and offers to buy our houses. Mix into this the emails, texts and other phone calls trying to convince you to part with some of your funds. All are in one way or another simply trying pick your pocket. Stay alert, keep your wits about you and don’t be a victim.
Code of Conduct
The Big Muddy Historical Gaming Alliance – St. Louis
in April of 2023 adopted the following.
1). Have Fun!
Just not at the expense of others.
2). Keep Calm & Play On.
Malicious, violent, or bullish behavior will not be tolerated.
3). Keep it Clean!
Pick up after yourself. Put things back where they belong or where you found them.
4). Respect
For others, their property, their space and yourself.
a). Don’t touch people or stuff that isn’t yours without asking.
b). Contain your game: Don’t infringe upon other gamer’s play space.
c). Respect your body, mind and spirit: regular bathing, proper hygiene, hydration and rest are more important than gaming!
5). Language
This is a “family-friendly” space.
a). A swear word may slip from out here and there, but rude speech will not be tolerated.
b). Leave divisive discussions (religion, political, etc) at the door. There is a time and place and this isn’t it.
If all else fails: See Rule #1!
Additional Thoughts
It’s nothing dramatic, but comes down to simply using common sense, civility and being respectful of others. As we all have learned through the years, it is not how the words are meant, it is how they are received. It is also important for us as a group gaming in this or any public space to be knowledgeable about perceptions of others. Our public gaming events are our best recruiting tools to increase the numbers of historical and table top gamers. A group that looks to be having fun, competing over a game table without being hyper-competitive will draw those with a similar interest to us and gives off a good impression. If we are to grow our group and hobby, we need to be mindful of how we are perceived by others in the public space and each of us is an ambassador for ourselves, our gaming community and our hobby. We work or sink together.
