Semi Regular Retirees Game 01/16/25 The Battle of The Dogger Bank 1915

It was adventure on the high seas today as we traveled back in time to 1915 for one of the first major naval battles of The First World War.

Mark Williams presented an interesting and hard fought scenario The Battle of the Dogger Bank with British Battle Cruisers (Pat L & Steve L) supported by lighter units moving to prevent an Imperial German (Steve T and Andrew B) force of Battlecruisers and support from breaking out for some mischief.

The Royal Navy started with the initiative, but the German Navy started out with some hard hitting gunnery that made life much less pleasant for the British Sailors. The game drew several folks to stop by and see the action including Pat, Dave, Mark, Adam and Matt.

Mark fielded some superb looking 1/3000 scale ships that Kurt Linke had printed for him. Mark tells us that Kurt’s advice was invaluable in helping him with painting and basing.

One of the great things about our hobby community is the camaraderie that we enjoy helping each other with the modeling, history and gaming.

The Blucher above was in this photo the target of some British gunnery, but Steve T scored many an impressive hit with it on the Royal Navy battle line.

Another of the impressive miniatures was this correctly scaled Zeppelin which historically appeared at the battle.

The Zeppelin under Andrew B. made a daring if unsuccessful air attack on the lead British ship. This was one time where neither side scored any hits.

Imperial German Destroyers complete the only torpedo attack of the game, damaging the lead British unit.

In the end it was judged that the bulk of the German fleet would escape from the pursuit by the Royal Navy but they certainly wouldn’t be unscathed by the experience.

Thanks to Mark for providing a fun and interesting afternoon for all the players. We hope to see future scenarios of World War I Naval Actions at our game days. Thanks also to Nick and the fine crew at Miniature Market Rock Hill for their continued support.

    1. Doug,
These were a meshing of Fighting Battleships and WarThunder from what the GM told us at the game today. I expect to see some tweaks made and more games on the table in the not too distant future. Hopefully we can convince him to run one at the upcoming DieCon 2025 convention held in Collinsville, IL the first weekend of June this year.
