September 23, 1779 saw the USS Bonhomme Richard in close action with HMS Serapis off Flamborough Head and Steve Lowry recreated this event using his large scale homemade ships crewed by 54mm miniatures for us at Miniature Market Rock Hill.

Rules for the day were Wiley Games Fistful of Lead Bigger Battles. The Bonhomme Richard was under the command of Andrew, Pat and James while the Serapis crew was guided by Steve, Dave and Mark in our first of two games.

Each player ran four groups of four.

There was action flurry of action early on as the British attacked across the quarter deck only to see the American Marines deal blows to their counterparts in the fighting tops.

American Sailors at the ready!

The fighting got up close and personal on both the deck and in the fighting tops.

Game one went to the Americans as James landed a grenade down the forward hatchway causing a powder explosion that shook both ships breaking the morale of the British.

Game two went longer as both sides fought hard depleting their crews in the ferocious fighting.

Marines of both sides tried hard to land one in the hatchways of their opponents ships but multiple attempts came to naught. With crews depleted the game was declared a draw by Steve.
Thanks to Steve for bringing out his big ships for a fun afternoon of gaming to the appreciation of the players and several onlookers.
Our Thanks to Miniature Market Rock Hill for their continued support.
