Heat warnings aside a nice sized group gathered at Impact Gaming Center in Fairview Heights, IL for our June Game Day East featuring two intriguing games for our players.
First up was Tom Vielott and Les Hostetler’s reprise from Barracks Battles @ DieCon 2025 Pamir Peril 1986.

In the dusty mountains of Afghanistan, the Soviets once again find themselves ambushed by Afghan Mujahideen as they run valuable supplies up to one of their forward bases along the ever-dangerous Pamir Highway.

The lead vehicle of an armored convoy of Soviet APCs and trucks has hit an improvised explosive device and is sitting burning on the road.

Its compatriots find themselves surrounded by enemies; the Soviets must either fight their way through the ambush or join the corpses littering Afghanistan’s mountains.

The fighting was fierce with both sides dishing it out as seen here.

The Soviets were coming up on the short end of things when their radio messages pleading for support finally generated some assistance in the form of a Hind Helicopter.

Arriving just in the nick of time with rocket pods full of party favors for the attacking forces.

The end result was an Afghan victory as the Soviet column was down to one truck of supplies that might make it off the table to the forward base. The Afghans had one truck captured and another disabled in this hard fought contest.
Our second table was Fallschirmjager Crossroads – Dombaas Norway presented by Ray Gluck using Fistful of Lead Bigger Battles Rules and his superbly painted 25mm miniatures.

Happening along with the 1940 German invasion of France was the lesser known but just as critical German assault on Norway in which a combined Airborne and Seaborne invasion pressed the defenses of the small country.

16 April 1940. The German invasion of Norway is in progress. Two companies of fallschirmjager have dropped on Dombaas to secure a vital road junction. The drop was wide, and the Germans are scattered, but a small group make it to their objective. Now they must hold against the Norwegian counterattack. The Norwegians must clear the crossroads in order to move supplies and troops to the battles inland.

The Germans started out on board in the area of the farmhouse and crossroads. The Norwegian Army could come in from pretty much any direction.

A Norwegian light machine gun section moves forward to set up a base of fire on the farmhouse.

The Norwegians made the best use of cover that they could as they advanced upon the objective. The German deployment was established to cover both the crossroads and the farmhouse with their smaller force.

One Norwegian unit took just too many losses and received a fleeing chicken.

The game ended with a Norwegian victory, but one that came as significant costs as the German Airborne took their toll.

Thanks to all the GMs, players and those that stopped by to look or to visit on this great day of gaming. Our Special Thanks to the Great Team at Impact Game Center for their continued support.
