September Game Day East 09/21/25 Battle of Tagliatelli

The offerings for our September included some Napoleonic fun with Steve King presenting the his Battel of Tagliatelli. Steve was kind enough to provide us with the details of the game so we will turn the narration over to him for the after action report.

“Tagliatelli is a fictional scenario set in 1813 during the Napoleonic wars”.

“Rule set Orders to Eagles.”

“The French garrison of Valencia, Commanded by Marshall Suchet, is hastening to cross the flooded river Barolo via the village of Tagliatelli.”

“The Bold Austrian Hiller is attempting to cut them off and destroy them”.

“The Battle map.”

“Each side is allowed to pick one division to be on table at the start of the game, within their respective deployment areas”.

“The remaining three division enter on turns 1, 2 & 3”.

“The French players can decide the order of which division comes on each turn, they all enter on the road at A in column of march.
The Austrians, however, enter at random on roads at X, Y & Z. This reflects their poor staff work. The GM decide by random dice roll which division entered on which road.”

“The French Players were, Les and Tom.”

“The Austrians Pat and Steve.”

“Pat was aggressive right from the off, trying to pin the French rearguard and get behind its flanks and rear to the bridge behind Tagliatelli. Les commanding the rearguard stood firm, and repulsed all Pats efforts.”

“Tom hurried down the road with the rest of the French Divisions”.”

“Austrian plans were not helped by their limited command distance and one division soon became unable to maneuver.”

“The Austrians were not helped by the random appearance of their remaining divisions, the weakest of which came on at road X”.”

“One division of French briefly panicked at the sight of this division, but the Austrians were quickly routed.”

“Pats division in the center was begining to run out of steam, and a charge by the French cavalry caught some Austrian infantry in the open and out of square. This was the tipping point and the division routed.”

“Les’s Division had soaked up a lot of pressure but it kept the road open to the bridge with its stubborn refusal to break, giving ground slowly. Toms arrival with fresh troops assured a French victory, all be it a minor one”.

“The French had to get 85% of their forces across the river, sadly they had lost 25% of their force defeating the Austrians”.

“Three of the four Austrian division were either routed off table of unable to advance, due to command issues.”

“The game was a fun and interesting challenge for the players and they all enjoyed themselves.”

“Because of the random nature of the Austrian reinforcements and the choice of which division goes where by the players, this game can be played several times without, I suspect much repetition.”

Thanks Steve for presenting the game and the great after action report and photos It really put us into the spirit of the game. Thanks also to all the players that took the opportunity to play and our continued Thanks to the fine folks at Impact Game Center for their continued support.

    1. Hi Dave
Plan is to run this scenario again on the next Thursday retirees game at Rock Hill.
With different players, should be interesting to see what happens.
      Steve
