Reindeer Wars 2025 The Great Turkey Hunt 12/26/25

Our first day of Reindeer Wars kicked off with a visit to Game Nite and the annual Running of The Turkeys set in the snow covered north of the French and Indian Wars. Using “One Hour Skirmish Wargames Rules” by John Lambshead, our intrepid player Mark J (Couer de Bois) went out in search of a bird for the officer’s mess at his camp. Oddly enough Patrick C (Roger’s Rangers) was set out on exactly the same task as both camps had been told by the locals that the woods were filled with game and there would be good eatin’ to be had.

With their mission thrust upon their team and being the low seniority folks in their troops, they eagerly (or maybe not) ventured out to search the woods for the elusive bird.

Mark’s group busy searching the first woods they encountered, with not too much luck had on the first few round.

Still movin’ and searchin’ ………

Opps! There are more things about than just birds as the players found. Mark bagged three bears and several wolves while Patrick was able to get a couple of wolf pelts himself, but the action cards simply didn’t go Patrick’s way generating just a few points and limited options.

And then the stars (and cards) fell into alignment for Mark as he not only found a bird but managed after several missed shots and a bit of a chase to bag it.

Hearing the shots and sensing there just might be a turkey to be had Patrick raced his boys forward to see if a bit of turkey poaching might be an option.

The game ended with a race to the edge of the board as players crossed their fingers for a good card to be pulled. Patrick got off a good shot and Mark’s trooper had to drop the turkey, but more of his Couerer Du Bois came to the his aid (well, not so much his aid) and grabbed the turkey. The next card up and it was just barely enough points to get off the board leaving the French Runners of the Woods with a mission completed, officers happy and a rather depleted team of troopers.

Thanks to the players and of course to the fine staff at Game Nite for their continued support.
