It was a brisk Sunday outside, some would say (correctly) blasted cold making if a great day for gaming at Impact Game Center in Fairview Heights, Illinois. Big Muddy joined a large group of games to take advantage of the great space provided by IGC to play their favorite games in a welcoming environment.

A card game tournament above showing the ever increasing interest in gaming that is supported here.
Our contribution to the day was our January Game Day East with Tom Vielott taking the lead running a bit of a Star Wars adventure he called Tusken Hunting. It was just a routine convoy guarded by Imperial Storm Troopers escorting some Droids along a thought to be quiet road….

Tom has sent in a bit of a description so we will turn it over to him ……..

“Five players sat down to fight out an ambush in a galaxy far far away using modified Sword and the Flame rules.”

“The Tusken Raiders came on strong, quickly leaping out of hiding and ambushing both ends of the column; they managed to get away with a pile of droids to sell, though their losses were heavy doing so. Everyone had a good time!”

On Table Two we ventured into a bit of a Red (Adam & Ray)on Blue (Steve L and Steve K) stylized game using “One Hour Wargame Rules” by Neil Thomas. Our assembled players ventured into the Horse & Musket Era at the Battle of The Egg Nog River.

The Egg Nog River was frozen over at this time, but the Spring thaw was coming. The mission of both forces was to secure the ford in the middle of the waterway so that their side would be ready for operations when the weather warmed.

The forces were mirror images of one another. Each side having 1 Artillery, 1 Skirmisher, 2 Cavalry and 4 Line Infantry. Blue reached the river first with a cavalry unit, but paid dearly as Red artillery and musketry unloaded vaporizing the aggressor. We see above that the Blue cavalry did manage to get in a few licks with a charge on the Red infantry just before their fate was sealed.

The Blue forces had hired some Green cavalry to fill out their ranks for this expedition

First contact early in the game.

Blue moving up.

Red Infantry on the march.

Near the end of the game after a multi turn cavalry battle on the Red left finally allowed for movement. This breakthrough came a bit too late as Blue had managed to eliminate several Red units in the center with accurate musketry. The artillery duel went to Red as Ray was getting some great dice while Steve L was rolling miss after miss. A Blue victory, but not one that they could afford to do very often.
Thanks to Tom for his game report, All the players and to the great staff at IGC for their continued support.

That Red vs. Blue Toy Soldiers game looks great!
Easy to tell how cold the day was too – those red dice have turned pink.
