The Invasion of Earth has been far more costly than anticipated or budgeted by the Martian Leadership and important services to the population have been cut back leading to considerable unrest. The long dormant Rebel Confederation sees its chance to put an end to the invasion and perhaps topple the oppressive regime starting with an attack on a auxiliary spaceport that is sending more valuable resources to the endless battle on Terra.

Guarding Auxiliary Spaceport Alpha was a Loyalist (Dave B) MK II Scarab that had been in for refit and was still having trouble with its main heat ray. Rebel Confederation (Steve T and Pat L) arrived on the scene with plans to knock out the main power generator and put the facility out of commission using their two “appropriated” (stolen) MK III Squids.

The Scarab is tough but has a limited arc of fire.

We see the units move forward to engage as the players become more familiar with the movement and action cards.

Auxiliary Spaceport Alpha with the main power generator just beyond the nearest rocket preparing to leave for Earth. We used D10s to keep track of Tripods energy reserves.

The battle is joined as the tripods exchange “pleasantries” in the form of heat ray shots.

Things got down to point blank range with heavy damage being sent in both directions. The Rebels lost one Squid, but they had the Scarab holed, pilot wounded and limping badly. In the end the second Squid remained focused on the mission and was able to out maneuver the Scarab making it to the power generator and destroying it.
Game Two
A second game mixed things up a bit with the Loyalists (Dave B and Kevin F) joining forces and changing to a Cuttlefish & Squid to defend the Spaceport. Rebels attacked with two Scarabs leading to some longer range exchanges courtesy of their heavy heat rays.

In the middle of the board we find Dave’s Cuttlefish and Steve’s Scarab destroyed while Pat ran past Kevin’s Squid that had taken position (hid like a scaredy cat) against the impassible terrain, covering the gap, taking pot shots at Pat as he moved.

In the end the cards favored the light Squid that was down to its last energy point and gave it just enough hits to take out the Scarab defending the base.
Thanks to the players for joining in for this light hearted Sci-Fi scenario as we continue to learn the rules for this enjoyable game system. Thanks also to Conner and the crew at Miniature Market Rock Hill for their continued support.
