Big Muddy Historical Gaming Alliance – St. Louis Semi Regular Retirees Game 05/12/26 Down the Loire River Adventure.
The Tuesday Night crew gathered at Game Nite to try out a mash up rules set combining “And One for All…” with a bit of “Limeys & Slimeys” as our intrepid swashbuckling heroes headed down the Loire River in our continuing Capture of Constance multi part scenario.

As we know Constance the confidant of the Queen has been accused by Cardinal Richelieu of being a spy acting as a messenger between the Queen Anne and The Duke of Buckingham. Already convicted but still necessary for a show trial in Paris, Constance has been between the custody of the Cardinal’s Guard and her rescuers the Kings Musketeers. Our last adventure found her held by the Red Guard in the convent of the Good Sisters only to make good her escape with the help of Aramis and a fellow Musketeer.

It is there that this adventure begins as the Cardinal’s agents have located her at the riverside cabin of Pierre the fisherman and family. With the Red Guard (Pat L and A.J. then Kevin F) moving in Aramis and Pierre (Keith S) load Constance into a boat and head downstream in hopes of eluding meeting up with the remaining Musketeers ( Andrew B).

Using a brown water game mat (courtesy of the artwork of Dave Schaffner) the players found a river filled with obstacles beyond just the opponents. There were rocks and snags to inhibit movement and possibly damager your boat. There were swivels and cannons that could really make a mess of things and as always there were taunts, insults and duels that could end up sending someone into the water..

Initiative was by card draw each turn and as long as the dreaded “1” wasn’t rolled the player could keep moving their boat and the figures onboard. Of course ones were rolled by everyone at just the wrong time creating it’s own level of chaos.

The game saw a boarding action by Pat L onto Keith’s craft. A broadside from the patrol boat into the Red Guard’s pursuit and general mayhem.

Constance did get away this time, but not before getting her feet (and most everything else) wet in the river after being sent overboard. Two of the Cardinal’s men were lost and one was in the drink at games end. This game will have a reprise run this week for our Semi Regular Retirees Game on Thursday.

Thanks to Keith for sending in a few of the photos you are seeing and Thanks to all the players for taking time to join in the this rules mash up. Our continued appreciation to Game Nite for their for their support.
Remember to shop local.
