Big Muddy Historical Gaming Alliance – St. Louis Game Day West Grand Tactics – ACW

Our August Game Day West featured some superb games for the crowd that assembled at Miniature Market Rock Hill this first Saturday of the month. Across several historical (and a bit less historical) eras we saw games in a variety of scales and styles.

One of our three featured games was Grand Tactics-ACW scenario with some excellent looking miniatures and new modular boards presented by Dave Schaffner.

The scenario as described on our calendar was  MO-Miniatures’ American Civil War continues into August: as 10mm Brigade-size commands fight over Plug Hill & the Nickel Crossroads.  For four or more players, using fast-play Grand Tactics rules.

Dave was kind enough to not only run the game but to send in a bit of a report for us all to enjoy so we will let him offer you the details…..

“A half-dozen guys played Grand Tactics-ACW this past Saturday, and we ran two sessions of the game, splitting victories between both the Union and Confederate sides for the day.”

“Each game featured three brigades per side, with at least one cavalry brigade included within the mix of player commands.”

“Before and after the game we enjoyed seeing some new hobby projects coming down the pike (show and tell), with Lance Western bringing along his newly-painted 28mm Napoleonics he’s readying for a Fall debut, Dave Harrison displaying 3 and 6mm Total Battle Miniatures’ village vignettes, and Ben Ash with new WoFun armies.”

“We also had a discussion post-gaming about strategies for ‘keeping the karma going’, and how to promote multiplayer rules systems and/or new-period builds.”

“Kurt Linke and Ben both forwarded good ideas during this discussion session, which added to the positive energy we took away from a great day of gamin’ at the shop.”

Thanks to Dave for running the game and for the great gaming report from our A Thank You to all the players Lance W, Pete P, Bob A,  Benjamin A, and David H who came out and our appreciation to Miniature Market Rock Hill  for their continued support.
