Table One
Is This Good Ground? The 2nd American Civil War: Fistful of TOWs 3 by Paul Minson & Ty Beard. In this alternative history, the Confederate States of America fought the United States to a standstill. The U.S. negotiated an end to the war and the newly formed country was named the Dixie States of America. The two countries existed side by side from the end of the war until the year 2000. A multitude of little issues built up until the U.S. had had enough and struck the Dixie States western territories by slicing down the Mississippi River toward New Orleans. In the east, The Dixie States decided to launch its own offensive by striking north toward Washington DC to force the U.S. to pull forces from the west to reinforce the east. The venerable Army of Northern Virginia moved north through Maryland and into Pennsylvania mirroring the 1863 move toward Gettysburg. The U.S. Army of the Potomac quickly moved to block the advance and last night, reconnaissance forces found the Army of Northern Virginia and preparation for battle has begun. MINIATURE SCALE: 1/285th – Micro Armor (2-8 players). Adam Jones GM
Table Two
The Push of Pikes: Love those Pikes and Boom Sticks (Muskets) Pike and Shotte by Warlord Games (minor modifying) MINIATURE SCALE: 28mm (2-4 players). Harry Borchardt GM

Defense Point nr. 54: Bolt Action 1st Edition (modified) by Warlord Games. The German invasion of Poland is progressing rapidly. The new German style of warfare, blitzkrieg, is a surprise to the Polish Army and it is trying to deal with the onslaught. Hopefully, years of fortification building along the Polish frontier with Germany will be able to slow down German progress in key places. While Panzer elements make progress towards Naklo, a German Infantry Battalion has been dispatched to investigate a Polish defensive position near Sepolno. The Poles manning Defensive Point nr. 54 have heard the reports on the radio of the rapid advance and have been waiting in anticipation of the appearance of German troops in their area. Will they be able to slow down or even stop the German advance? MINIATURE SCALE: 20mm (2-6 players). John Nozka GM
Table Four
Bring out yer Dead – Battle Masters goes Medieval: Milton Bradley/Games Workshop ): Modified for Medieval tactics. Themed on the battles fought during the Hundred Years War, a fun, easy-play variant of the 1992 Battle Masters game commences, as the echo of steel hitting shields resounds across the tabletop! MINIATURE SCALE: 15mm (2-6 players). Dave Schaffner GM
Table Five
Plains Indian Wars:
Miniatures conversion of an area movement boardgame from GMT. Players will attempt to build the transcontinental railway through the West as the native tribes do what they can to hold onto their way of living. Time should allow in this session for the game to be played twice.
6mm Miniatures (2-4 players) Patrick Lewis GM
Table Six
WWI Over the Trenches – Air Combat in the Great War 1917: Rules by Eric Hotz. It’s 1917 and the war grinds on. Today the German High Command has ordered an attack on the British lines. German reconnaissance aircraft escorted by fighters will spot for the artillery barrage. Meanwhile a British patrol just happens to be in the area. A determined dogfight ensues between the two belligerents. MINIATURE SCALE: 1/72 (4-12 players). Steven King GM
Table Seven
Samurai Adventure in 28mm: Ninjutsu! In a town on the border, where strange deals are made and no one is quite as they seem, the Princess of Ninjas has a mission to unravel a dastardly secret and sabotage Lord Hashimoto’s plots against her liege. Join us on a half-skirmish half-roleplaying adventure into the bandit-ridden spy-infested edges of Samurai society! MINIATURE SCALE: 28mm (3-12 players). Tom Vielott GM
Table Eight
The Great Turkey Hunt: One Hour Skirmish Wargames Rules by Pen & Sword Publications. It is the French & Indian Wars. Your unit after a long days march has been assigned the task of finding tonight’s dinner for the officer’s mess out in the woods over there. Get “cracking” and track down those turkeys. One Hour Skirmish Wargames Rules play very quickly and we should have time to do multiple games.
Kevin Fitzpatrick GM
Board Game Table
A Most Fearful Sacrifice: Flying Pig Games. Scenario Four: “An Unexpected Encounter”, covering the entire first day of the Battle of Gettysburg.
Boardgame: (2-4 Players) David Paul Harrison GM
Command Con Lite Session Two 5:00PM – 9:PM
Table One
Onward to Stalingrad: Jagdpanzer 2nd Edition by Jagdpanzer. The 4th Panzer Army is on the Southwestern approaches to Stalingrad. Colonel-General Hoth has directed the lead elements to press forward as rapidly as possible. Russian resistance has been negligible since crossing the Don—it appears the Germans will quickly take Stalingrad and the Caucasus and end the war before Christmas 1942. The Russians screening Stalingrad from the Southwest might have something to say about this. This will be a meeting engagement at the company level of the lead elements.

Gaming in the Public Space
A reminder that our gaming in the public space is a both a hopefully enjoyable experience and our most valuable means to grow our gaming community. It is therefore important that we be certain that our appearance to others who may visit with us or engage in any fashion are left with a positive impression if we are to keep our hobby vibrant.
Great terrain, beautiful miniatures and fantastic scenarios are all important to that first impression, but equally important are players who are engaged and enjoying themselves. Gaming is competitive by nature and the “moment’ may cause us to say something or do something that not only detracts from the game but from our long established friendships. You are urged to think how something will be perceived before you say it and what the other person might be dealing with in the world beyond the game table.
Let’s not attract potential new players with great looking presentations only to push them away with unnecessary
ill-considered words or tension.
It is our hobby and let’s enjoy it together.
Have you checked out our website?
Covid and Flu Season
Just a reminder that the seasonal flu shots are available and that taking care of yourself and family is always a good idea. The new variant of Covid has also affected several of our community.
October After Action Reports (AARs)
AARs & pics were posted to the Facebook Page and website, but for those who may have missed them here we go…
Semi Regular Retirees Game 10/05/23:
The Retreat from Fort William Henry
by Kevin Fitzpatrick
We had a nice run through of the Black Powder French & Indian War Battle of Fort William Henry on 10/7. Steve Lowry and I enjoyed the game and although the British did take more than a few lumps to their rally squares attempting to escape the Indians were hardly unscathed in the process. This game really helped in refreshing my memory of the Black Powder and specific scenario rules so that it would go more smoothly on our October Saturday Game Day.
Big Muddy October Game Day 10/07/23
Medieval Masters
by Dave Schaffner
A very good showing for October’s game day, being attended by many stalwart area gamers, along with a few new faces!
Playing in my Medieval Masters game of the Hundred Years War, was French King Adam III, Baron Tim L., and Duke Steve T.. Across the sodden field the English of King Harry B. assembled to do battle, ably assisted by crazy Count Craig S., and Baron Adam B, who commanded the left Battle – and battle they would.
We played two games in about the span of three hours, with each side winning a cherished victory – so the War will continue – the next battle explodes across sodden field at Command Con Lite in November!
The Retreat from Fort William Henry 1757
Black Powder – Micro Scale
by Kevin Fitzpatrick
If you have seen the Last of the Mohicans film you saw the situation upon which this scenario is based. Fort William Henry was surrendered by the British to the French with the negotiations leaving out the payday of loot for the French Indian allies. Not willing to be denied their wages the Indians fell upon the British column as it retired from the fort.
The column now broken up into “rally squares” did their best to extricate themselves from their predicament. This game ebbed and flowed with some good initial luck as the Indians but between the distractions of the various piles of loot left behind by prior members of the retreating column and some accurate fire from the British things turned toward a victory for the Crown’s forces. Happy to report that the Munro daughters were able to escape.
Wings of Glory WWI
by Kevin Fitzpatrick
As usual our October Game Day hosted the The Big Muddy Flying School. A big Thank You to Senior Flight Instructor Pat Lewis for stepping in to teach flying lessons in our overflow/reserve game with some experienced pilots joining in. The Central Powers & Allied Aircraft twisted and turned over the skies of “No-Man’s Land” through a reported four sorties throughout the day. Pilots returned to the field exhausted but the word from the Officer’s Club was that they were satisfied that they have honed their skills in the scouts and two seaters.
The Battle of The Chesapeake
Action Under Sail
by Steven Lowry
After Action Report for the Battle of Chesapeake Bay 9-5-1781 Miniature Market 10/7/2023
We had a family game of Action Under Sail with six members of the same family – John, Ben, Mark, Robert (age 10), Dominic (age ?) and Matthew (age 6) participating in game play. I think I now held the record for youngest player. We had nine ships-of-the-line on each side. The British were approaching the Bay with the wind gage and the French were struggling to get out of the Bay to meet the British, causing their van to have some distance from their center (historical setup). As in most family fights, both sides sought to close and go for a death match, no timid lines were present after about three turns. When the French rear, including their flagship the Paris, finally caught up with the action on the last turn, they dealt out some punishment. However, the Paris, being last in line, never got to fire a shot. The French had the edge in crew, guns and sails destroyed so they got the victory, following historical results. Cornwallis was forced to surrender as a result and the US won it’s independence.
Semi Regular Retirees Game 10/12/23
And One For All!
by Kevin Fitzpatrick
A great day to put on our plumed hats and hear the clash of cold steel as our brave heroes fought for glory & honor!
The King’s favorite Mistress had been abducted and it was up to the Musketeers (Steve Lowry) to exchange the cart of gold for her safety from the Rogue Bandits (Pat Lewis) holding her in the sleepy hamlet of St Francois. The locals had wisely cleared the cobblestone roads to avoid any confrontation and confrontation there was as Planchet entered a building upon arrival to search for the fair lady only to be dealt some serious wounds for his trouble. Soon D’artagan arrived and and engaged in swordplay with elements of the Cardinal’s Guard (Tim Lalk) who were also mysteriously on the scene.
Arriving later were some local Militia (Steve Treatman) that diligently searched for the hostage engaging some of the Bandits and eventually the Musketeers.
At the end of the day, we saw the ox cart of loot being lead away by some bandits only to be interrupted by a Cardinal’s Guardsman. The Mistress was still in the clutches of the bandits, D’artagan, Planchet were badly wounded, Pothos was unconscious, several bandits were wounded as was Rochefort and another Guardsman. The day went to the Rogue Bandits but for how long?
All for One is a different style of gaming without movement rates and relies on the judgement of players to balance the desire for extra Swashbuckling dice to add to their attacks vs the chance to roll a one and thereby lose the initiative. I will admit to having flubbed the opposed swashbuckling rule, but we will revisit this again probably at Reindeer Wars to see if the King’s Musketeers will carry the day.
Good to see Chris Fawcett stop by for a bit and we wish him well on his adventure and we appreciate his kindness in sharing the various rule sets he dropped off. Likewise it was good to see Kurt Linke visiting and nice to meet Mark Williams and add him to our Semi Regular Retirees listing.
Semi Regular Retirees Game 10/19/23
by Kevin Fitzpatrick
Kurt Linke treated us to an Octoberfest game of LaSalle today at Miniature Market Retail n Manchester Road. Steve Lowry and Pat Lewis with the Bavarian/Austrian Alliance overwhelmed our dashing French commanded by Tom Stevenson and Steve Treatman with my role to give bad advice to the French commanders. Pat’s cavalry took some lumps attacking our artillery in the center before we were overwhelmed and Steve Lowry practiced some combined arms attack on our left flank squares. It will of course be noted that the brave French units exhibited considerable panache prior to succumbing to the terrific assaults.exhibited considerable panache prior to succumbing to the terrific assaults.
Our appreciation to the excellent staff at Miniature Market Retail Superstore for their assistance and to all the players who joined us today including the new folks who stopped by then joined in the fun.
