Semi Regular Retirees Game 11/14/23 Pacific Thunder

Pat Lewis treated the group to another of his superbly crafted jumbo game boards upscaling the board-game “Pacific Thunder” which covers the campaign for the Solomon Islands in World War II.

Greg D, Steve L (The USN) took on Mark J and Kurt L (the IJN) in a contest to control Guadalcanal bringing a variety of naval forces to the scene. Above Pat explains some of the rules and scenario to the players.

A look at this great game board which is simply wonderful to behold. Early in the game as both sides are setting up their forces and plans.

Closer look at the fleets off Guadalcanal as the action heats up.

Late in the game and the dice rolling.

This game went to the IJN and saw the US forces coming out on the short end of things. Post game discussion of the players felt the a few tweaks were in order to create a more historical balance and with that we are sure to see this one on the table again.

Our second game in this two-fer Retirees gathering was “Wings of Glory WWI” – London Raid.

Keith S, Steve T and Tom S all jumped in the cockpits of their pursuit ships hoping they could keep the Zeppelin Straaken from reaching and bombing a bridge in central London.

In game one The Zeppelin missed the target area completely and succumbed to the combined attacks of the three defenders claiming one pursuit ship before it fell from the skies.

In game two the mighty Zeppelin managed a bit better navigation towards the target area in mid map and despite an impressive early hit by Tom held on to complete it’s mission and exit the board with just one point left on it’s damage track. This time the Kaiser’s gunners scored some hits taking down both Keith and Steve before exiting. Reports from the German airfield is that this particular aircraft will be under repairs for a lengthly period.

Game Three saw Tom taking on Bill I. in a one on one contest in the rather unfriendly skies. Bill just learning the game took a German two seater and matched up against Tom’s Sopwith.

It was an evenly matched contest that went down to the wire with both planes heavily ventilated by their opponents. The more maneuverable Sopwith did its best against the bright yellow German, but the rear gunner was on his game this flight and bested the Brit in this one.

Great Time with two great games on the tables. Thanks to the GM’s, Players and of course the wonderful supportive staff of at Miniature Market Cave Springs.
