Semi Regular Retirees Game 02/13/25 Tripods & Triplanes

Our Semi Regular Retirees Game at Miniature Market Rock Hill brought to the table a game that has languished too long on the “we’ll get to it” list. Sparked by the recent popularity of Pat’s All Quiet on the Martian Front scenario we tried out a second style of Martian Invasion with this title by Ares Games.

Steve L became our visitor from Mars while Pat L, Steve T, Mark J, Andrew B and Dave B all took to the skies to defeat the invader.

It was Camels, DH4s and a Spad in the mix all trying to get the best of the three legged menace and protect the four targets from destruction.

Up close and personal.

In our first scenario Steve managed to destroy 2 of the four objectives before succumbing to the combined fire of four aircraft making round one a draw.

The second game Dave B jumped in after observing the first game and we upgraded the Martian in order to compensate a bit. Victory still required the destruction of the four objectives by the Martian player.

With a bit of practice under their belt and becoming accustomed to Earth gravity the Martian tripod put up a tough fight for the five aircraft, downing 4 in the process. We did bring players back on at the next turn in order to keep the game flowing.

Here Steve T’s Spad slips past the three legged monstrosity.

Two objectives down and two to go, but the tripod is having energy problems.

Game Two ended with five aircraft shot down and three objectives destroyed by the Martian. It was a marginal victory for the earthlings, but not one they could afford to replicate very often as the invader extracted a heavy price from the defenders.

Thanks to all the players who jumped in for this rules learning game (and I know we probably botched a few of them as we went along). A Thank You to Nick and the fine folks at Miniature Market – Rock Hill for their continued support.
