A few of the group gathered at Miniature Market Cave Springs to give the rules by Wofun for ACW a run through and stay inside on a horrendously rainy day. Dave Schaffner provides some pics and an AAR of the game.
Little Big Game – 6mm ACW at Callahan’s Crossroads

“The lead flew, and the smoke grew along the trails and fields at the Callahan Crossroads this Easter weekend, as Kevin Fitzpatrick hosted a multi-brigade, American Civil War action for us to sample the free WoFun game rules, written by Andy Callan. “

Above Bob & Mark command the CSA forces.
“What struck me immediately – the look and feel – with small figs, but a battle of ample proportions came off.”

“The Yankees got to the crossroads first, but the Rebs pressed hard and relentlessly against the ranks in blue, finally forcing the Union regiments off the objective for a Confederate win. Despite the rainy weather, the day was a winner too!”

Near the end of the battle with fighting in the fields surrounding Callahan’s Crossroads. The Union forces under great pressure from the larger Rebel forces. With this being a work-through/learning game we had a few stops to discuss rule interpretations and terrain affecting the units to reach a consensus on how the game would proceed.
There were a few hiccups early on with the CSA getting a few too many D6s for their long range artillery fire, but not enough to make much of a difference in the long run. Unit size/quality was another topic that was discussed and this will be addressed in future games.
Overall the impression of the rules was positive with a few tweaks suggested to the homemade QRS that was used for the day. The two stage initiative method (once for fire/once for movement) was something to which we are generally unaccustomed. The rules are available FREE for download at Wofungames.com
Thanks to all the players and their many positive suggestions. As always our Thanks to the folks at Miniature Market Cave Springs for their continued support.
