Steve King who presented this ACW game at Fantasy Books and Games sent in some great photos and a nice report of the action so we will turn it over to him…..
“Battle of Olustee Civil War Feb 20th 1864. Olustee Station, Florida.”
“This was a game Scenario from the rule book for Regimental Fire and Fury.”

“Players; Confederate. Steve Lowry. Mike Conner. Craig Schumacher. Ray Gluck.”
“Union. Adam Jones. Dave Muirvihill.”

“A few things came to light right at the start of the game. Confederates had the first move and three veteran units were in charge range of a single isolated Union unit of infantry with repeaters. In order to charge successfully with all three units Steve Lowry commanding the brigade had to roll 7 on a D10. He rolled a 10! Adam commanding the single unit of Union had to roll a 5 or 6 to stop the charge with his defensive volley. He rolled a 2! You can figure out what happened next, the Union unit dispersed in routed and killed and the Rebs took the position. Having driven the Union back on to their oncoming reinforcements things got less rosy for the spirited Confederates and casualties began to mount, eventually the three veteran units that mounted the charge on move 1 practically failed to exist by move turn 4. When the game was finally called the Confederates had lost more casualties but had forced the Union to give up the position.”
“We learned some very important things from the game on Wednesday. “
“1. Some scenarios which are designed to be 12 turns and 5 hours cannot be played on a Wednesday night.”

“2. Troops in charge range on turn one who are not supported is very unpopular with the players.”
“Final thoughts; Check the scenario with real events, they are not always accurate and sometimes favor one side or the other.”
Steve King
