Wednesday Night took a bit of a different turn as the assembled crowd joined together for a bit of alternate history in the skies over France during WWI. Presented by Tom Vielott using Leviathan game rules at Fantasy Books and Games in O’Fallon, IL
Ray was kind enough to send in some pics as were Tom and Steve who also contributed a bit of description to the gaming evening. So we will turn this over to Tom …
“Report: In an alternate World War 1, floating battleships provide the mobile fire support required to break the stalemate of the trenches. Of course, you have to get there first. In this game, the black clad German fleet (with a little Italian assistance) attempted to break through the anglo-french fleet at Verdun.”
“Though their ram ship opened a corridor, the Germans were heavily engaged trying to get through on the other side of the fight – they were starting to get the upper hand when the game ended due to time. All in all, a very enjoyable time with the Leviathans game, recently released by Catalyst Games.”

“We had eight players and Tom as game master/player. We had 22 ships with 11 on a side, including one battleship a battle cruiser, regular cruisers and a few destroyers. Ships were from France, England on one side and Germany, Austria, Hungary, and Italian on the other.”
“ I was on the left flank and both sides generally moved toward each other and then started to do left flank movements. On my flank, Dave Muhrville Was able to get a rear shot on the last French cruiser in line taking out two torpedo sections on the third turn.”
“ On the fourth turn, I was able to fire one of my German cruisers and hit the same torpedo section causing an integrity hit that blew up the French cruiser at that point a couple of players had to leave and the game was called a little after nine.I know Chuck Hansen tried to ram with his Austrian cruiser, but only succeeded in pushing back his opponent.”
‘Tom did a great job of trying to explain to us old guys how to play and we were generally proficient by the third turn. Haha”
