Big Muddy Historical Gaming Alliance – St. Louis Semi Regular Retirees Game One Hour WWII
Our group ventured to Miniature Market Cave Springs for a bit of WWII Action with a presentation by DJ Carter of the Neil Thomas One Hour Wargame Rules.
Jay Clendenny was kind enough to send in a game report photos and synopsis of the day so we will turn it over to his eloquent words for your reading pleasure….
“DJ ran the event today. “

“1 hour WW2 tactical engagement. US vs German meeting engagement at a river crossing. Objective was to capture the other sides victory location. The game is 10 turns long. Infantry generally moves 6″ and the tanks move 12″. Firing range was 12 inches for everything except the mortars, which could basically shoot the table if they had spotters.”

“Each side had 2 tanks, 2 AT teams, 2 mortar teams, 4 infantry units. Units either move or shoot. “
“The Germans (Gregg, Steve, Bill) decide to load up on the US right flank and put a blocking force on the US left flank. The US (Mark, Steve L, Jay) deploy evenly across the front “

“T1 Both sides move up. US sends its left flank AT unit to the right to try to counter the coming panzer thrust.”
“T2 US draws first blood with a mortar hit on a German AT unit on the left flank. The Germans start pushing for the right hand bridge.”

“T3 The Germans draw the first kill as a US infantry unit gets crushed on the right flank after being caught in the open. The US tank on the right manages to go into a standoff with the German tank. (The bridges were arched, so you could not directly see over the bridge from one side to the other). The US continues to chew on the German AT gun unit on the left side, hoping to clear a way for Steve’s tank.”
“T4 The US eliminate the German AT unit on the left for their first kill, but not before the AT unit shoots up the US tank. Some US infantry is finally in action on the left to clean out the German blocking force while Steve’s tank makes a push across the bridge. The Germans start their push across the bridge on the right and both sides give and take a lot of damage.”

“T5. US wins initative for the turn and does quite a bit of shooting. They manage to eliminate another unit on the US left flank and cause a lot of damage on the right flank. The first German tank gets across the bridge, but is destroyed by the US AT teams and Steves right flank tank. Unfortunately, the US tank on the left goes down to German infantry in the middle.“
“T6 US wins initative and this was probably the decisive turn as the Germans lose 2 infantry units, and a AT unit. In return, the Germans kill a US AT unit, but the unit count is now US 7 , German 5. Steve’s tank continues to duel with the German tank and both are pretty shot up. The US has a infantry unit left on the left flank to make the push for the victory area and they start across the bridge.”

“T7 Germans win initative, but there isn’t a lot going on as both sides move units instead of shooting. The tank duel continues on the right side with both tanks ripe for destruction.”
“T8. Germans win initative again, but they don’t get much done. The US finishes off the German tank and a infantry unit as a bonus.”

“T9 US wins initative and the left flank infantry unit charges for the victory location only to be shot to pieces by the German morars and remaining infantry unit. The US forces are pushing on the right now as well, but don’t get any shots this turn.”
“T10 Germans win initiative and try to finish off the US tank with mortars (not a good match up in terms of causing damage). They fail to damage the US tank and basically, the game is called there. The US could not reach the victory spot, but had a 6 to 3 unit advantage (although some of the US units were very damaged) and were on the German side of the river.”
“Overall, the US scored a marginal victory over the Germans.”
“The event was fast pace and fun and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. DJ did a great job with the event.”
Thanks to DJ for running the game and to Jay for this game report, getting us into the action. A Thank You to all the players for taking time to join in and continued appreciation to Miniature Market Cave Springs for their for their support.
