Our Thursday gaming group was treated to a reprise game by Steve King of his Napoleonic Battle of Tagliatelle scenario using 6mm miniatures and Orders to Eagles rules which he has organized into easy to use flip books for the players.

The basic scenario is that of a French Army (Adam J and Steve L) needing to make an exit across a rain swollen stream leaving it with one exit across bridge near the town of Tagliatelle. A rear guard holds the town, but sees Austrian’s (Mark J, Greg D and Steve T) and lots of ’em heading their way.

What adds to the multiple replay value of the scenario is the variable entry locations for the Austrians as they can enter on any of the three roads heading toward Tagliatelle. The more distant road offers the opportunity to disrupt the French movement to their exit point, the closer road offers an opportunity to gain the town and block the route to the bridge.

Units are labeled by nationality, type, and quality, Above we see some Austrian Dragoons preparing to charge some French Cavalry that are about to return the favor.

Austrian units in road column.

The battle for the town is hot and heavy as the French make every effort to hold open the vital passage way for their army.

Sensing things are about to become somewhat uncomfortable, French infantry forms square seeing the Austrian cavalry on the hill.

The game ended in a minor victory for the French as the Austrians had some bad luck in their attack on the town despite having some very good odds in their favor. Units having sustained significant losses broke on both sides and there wasn’t sufficient forces left to prevent the French from making good their escape.

Thanks to Steve making the trek from Illinois and for sharing this game with the Retirees. Thanks to the players Steve L, Steve T, Mark J, Greg D and Pat L who all took part. As always our Thanks to Miniature Market Rock Hill for their continued support.
