A rainy afternoon was perfect for some great gaming at Miniature Market – Cave Springs. Topic of the day was the airborne drops behind the Normandy beaches with a bit of a skirmish scenario using Flying Lead rules by Ganesha Games.

In the confusion of the airborne drop the 3rd Battalion 507th PIR ended up about 18 miles SW of their drop zone near the town of Grainges. After realizing that they sat across an important roadway the adhoc group dug in to await a link up. The 17th Panzer grenadier Division had other ideas.

Our German team of Steve L, Steve T and Pat L took on the mission of clearing out those pesky paratroopers advancing towards the town.

The US Team of Greg D and Tom S were outnumbered but waiting for the advance as their job was to buy time for the hoped link up.

Initially the German advance was cautious, but with a bit of luck leaning their way they soon found their footing and pushed hard onto the defenders positions.

Pat L and Steve T combined their efforts to clear out the Americans to their left with some well placed supporting fire from Steve’s medium machine gun and Pat’s grenade assault. Leaving Tom’s flank severely weakened.

Both sides noted the benefits of leaders helping with activation rolls, especially when Steve L lost his leader to a well placed hand grenade attack by Greg as he bunched up just a bit too much in the woods. Steve later returned the favor taking out Greg’s leader in a similar fashion.

The battle ended after six turns with a marginal American Victory. They still held the town, but were severely depleted. Another one or two turns and the attackers would likely have taken over the town center, but only to face advancing forces from the beachhead.

Thanks to the players for giving this rule set another run through and trying out some different weapons and tactics. Thanks also to Miniature Market Cave Springs for their continued support.
