Semi Regular Retirees Game 11/06/25 Thunderball

One of the great advantages of our group’s gaming schedule across different area locations is the opportunity to try out a game system or scenario with different audiences. Such is the case with this offering of MSD Games “Thunderball” underwater skirmish combat. Run in October for our Wednesday night group in O’Fallon, IL it was easy to do a reprise scenario for our Semi Regular Retirees group at Miniature Market Rock Hill this week.

All players were given the same assignment which was to reach the habitat of the famed underwater geologist and axe throwing champion, Dr Leroy Shaw that had discovered a huge deposit of the rarest of rare earths “Unobtainium”. Each player had a team of three divers from their respective governmental or non-govermental agencies as they sought the most precious of materials. Ravi from the Modern Naval Consortium, Steve L from the Outdoor Gaming Corporation. Steve T from the highly secretive Unnamed Agency and Andrew B from the Florissant Historical Society.

Ravi moves swiftly upon the habitat as low dice rolls for action points hinder both Steve L and Steve T aspirations.

Andrew’s team swimming as fast as they could go to get into the action. Each team had one diver equipped with a spear gun. The smaller D6’s shown indicate that the divers are at level 6 just above the bottom.

Andrew moves up with his activation and we can see both Steve L and Ravi’s divers at the habitat searching for the mineral.

Ravi was the first to strike gold and his level dice was switched to white noting that this diver was carrying the precise commodity.

Steve L has a diver with some unobtainium but was cut off from his exit point by Steve T. He was making best speed to circle around and get away. The center diver is wounded with the red D6 noting one wound.

Ravi through a combination of good dice rolls and skillful maneuvers was first off the board with the ‘unobtainium” wining the game. But the others were hoping to get their finds off to their dive boats.

It got to be a bit of a brawl near the habitat between Steve L and Andrew.

Things are heating up and it’s not good for Steve L’s diver (in blue)

End result was Ravi and the Modern Naval Consortium for the win. Andrew came in second for the Florissant Historical Society and it was a toss up as to whether Steve T could wrestle the mineral pouch away from Steve L.

Thanks to the players who gave his game a deep dive (pun fully intended) and to the fine staff at Miniature Market Rock Hill for their continued support.
