Wednesday Night was hopping at Fantasy Books & Games four our group as Frank Copeland presented his 15mm ACW in the environs of Vicksburg, Mississippi in that critical campaign of the American Civil War.
Frank was kind enough to share some photos and a description of the action so we will turn it over to him for a full play by play….
“Wednesday East game had six participants (3 ea) playing 15mm. ACW in a near Vicksburg area around late March 1863. Three zones battled each other independently yet zones could impact other zone with ARTY fires. “

“The North Zone had a over strengthed US BDE push the CS BDE back to the main bridge over the Yazoo. The CS Engineer rigged the bridge for demolition.
The US Navy moved into the Yazoo from the Mississippi with its picket boats successfully clearing 2x torpedoes. 2x tin clads and 2x Ironclads pushed into the bay and exchanged heavy fire withe CS
batteries. Some losses occurred on both sides.”

“CSA set up on the east of the Yazoo river with 8x 9” Dalghens and 13” mortars. A Zouve Regiment defended the SW island while an oversized BDE defended the north side. The US attacked first into the SW island with a BDE. The CS backed up to the center of the Island. The US pursued and a center of zone fight inside.”

! US INF and Arty cleared the SW Island Zone. It also discovered a hidden CS ram ship and forced it to move from its secret alcove. The ram rushed to sink the weakened Tin clads but was out maneuvered. They lashed together it would have attacked each other with raiding parties.”
“The US mortar rafts impacted both the CS batteries and the north side CS BDE. Union had moved into the bay yet time was called. Great play yet picking up a new set of rules has a bit of a learning curve.”

“Received some good comment on game mechanics as well. “
