It was a cold and blustery January day that found us as Impact Game Center in Fairview Heights, IL for our monthly Game Day – East with two games from which to choose.
Steve King presented a scenario that found us early in the American Civil War following the Battle of Bull Run with both armies still finding their way in this new conflict.
The game was a meeting engagement as both armies stumbled into one another. The CSA had an advantage in troop quality, the Union in the size of their regiments.
The day after several rounds of hard fighting went to the Rebels as they held on long enough in this scenario using Regimental Fire and Fury Rules.
Our second table was a seasonally appropriate game of snow ball fighting with the free download scenario “Snowbrawl” from Wiley Games for their “Fistful of Lead” skirmish game rules.
It was Team “Kung Fu Panda”, “Team Robots” and “Team Minions” all facing off against one another with the goal of occupying an opponents snow fort.
The game was a bit slow out of the gate as we used a much larger playing area than called for in the scenario and the a couple of the teams concentrated on building up a supply of snowballs before venturing out. Above we see The Minions stretched across the field eyeing the Panda’s fort with the Robots coming out to get into the mix.
The game came down to the very last card draw as Team Minion and Team Panda were fighting over Team Robot’s snow fort. Note the four Robots on the team bench after having been eliminated from play. With only one card for their team. The Robots pulled it out of the fire drawing a King of Spades going first and were able to occupy the Minions snow fort, thus ending a rollicking contest with lots of snowballs and tough fights.
Overall a great Sunday of gaming at the superb Impact Game Center in Fairview Heights. Thanks to the GMs, the Players and the fine folks at IGC for their support.
