July Game Day West 07/05/25 Bolt Action 500-1250 points.

Our July Game Day West included a couple of Bolt Action Games by Nate Rizzuto using the game systems point values to ensure a balanced opportunity for both teams to find a decent chance at victory. So we will let Nate tell the story…..

“First game was a 500 point battle learning battle between us rangers and Germans. The rangers started strong by using their special rule and running up the board.”

“The half track got a lucky hit on the German half track putting two pins and giving it starting compromised. The German tank pushed up and shoot at the rangers getting one kill. Then the ranger bazooka team got a lucky hit on the tank killing instantly.”

Next turn rules around and the German sniper moved into point blank range of a ranger squad. They don’t kill anyone and the rangers then close assault the sniper team taking care of it.  The German panzergrenaders then shoot at the bazooka team killing the loader but the shooter is able to pass a moral test to stick around”.

More units push up and shoot at each other with mixed results of taking guys off the board. This happens for the next couple of turns. The ranger sniper team is hit like the bazooka team but again the sniper is able to pass a moral test and stick around.

On turn five the rangers push through a hedge to close assault a German unit, they had been whittling down, on the other side. The rangers win and kill off that unit taking cover behind the destroyed tank as two units of German open fire from ambush orders.

As we head into turn six the German get a bit demoralized and realize they are going to have a hard time clearing the rest of the rangers and so raise a white flag in surrender ending the battle.”

Game two was a 1250 point game between us Marines and Italians. We were playing key positions with the Italians defending. The Italians start on the board with half of their units in ambush and the rest in reserve.”

The US come on as first wave. Lots of unit movements some firing but not much goes on. The biggest event was the American Sherman advancing onto the board triggering the Italian tank to take a shoot which missed. The Sherman then opens up with its gun and kills the Italian tank.”

Round two comes and the us pull the majority of their order dice in the front of the turn. This leads to the forward air observer calling in a strike for the beginning of next turn and rushing a squad out into the open. The Italians then get to go with their artillery observer calling in a strike for next turn and Italian units being able to advance onto the board to shoot at marine targets. Individual guys die but no major loses.”

“On the tank side of things the Sherman engages the remain Italian tank but only puts a pin on it. The Italian goes for an order but ends up fubaring it causing it to back up but not off the board luckily. Starting round three the strikes come in. Italians go first dropping with 7 inch radius which hits the American observer, two squads and a half track that has a bazooka team in it. Both squads are lucky and only take pins.”

” The observer and half track get obliterated and the bazooka team dies trying to bail out of the half track. The Italians get some more shoots off killing guys but not units. Then the Americans called a retreat (someone’s wife was asking when they were coming home) giving the Italians a win for the day.

Thanks Nate for running a couple of interesting scenarios for the players and a great battlefield report.

A table over from our main event a few sporting fellows did a quick pickup game of Bolt Action with the scenario being Soviets trying to clear out some Partizans.

Under the guidance of the megaphone armed Commissar (who we might add conveniently stayed near the map edge for most of the game, or at least until it was safe to advance) the troops advanced upon their mission across a deadly field.

Some French troops who were guest staring as Partizan’s formed up to defend their positions against the advancing Soviet horde.

Game went to the Soviets as they were just a bit too formidable on this day for the lightly armed irregular forces, but there will be another day and game table top in the future.

Thanks to the GM’s, players and to Miniature Market Rock Hill for their continued support.

Stay tuned for more battlefield reports as they filter in to headquarters, there was lots of gaming and more to share.
