Semi Regular Retirees Game 07/24/25 War in the Rif

At Miniature Market Cave Springs we enjoyed the cool breezes of the air conditioning and a hotly contested game in the sands of Spanish Morocco circa 1920.

The Spanish (Steve T) were attempting other move a truck loaded with water and supplies to one of their outposts and the local Riffians (Jules R) were out to put an end to that idea. Rules for the day were “Flying Lead” by Ganesha Games and this gave us another opportunity to learn more about this game system based upon their “Song of Blades and Heroes” engine.

Above we see the Spanish truck and escort having moved along the route. The Spanish Corporal has been downed by Riffian fire from the nearby hill.

The Great Shariff and his men popped up from hiding on the opposite hill leaving the Spanish in the crossfire.

The truck is moving slowly as the Spanish privates with their Corporal up again try to stay close.

The Great Shariff signals to the opposite hill to keep the pressure on the truck and its escort.

The Spanish situation is not improving as the co-driver has been put out of action and the Corporal suffered a Gory Death leading to a Spanish morale check (and these troopers were not all that excited about the mission from the start).

A bit of luck for the Spanish with a long range “Hail Mary” shot that took out the Great Shariff, leading to a morale check for the Riffians.

Steve makes his move and order the truck to break away from the escort alone. Could be that the inexperienced driver had just had enough of getting pinned down in his cab and decided to take his chances.

Counter move by Jules saw the remaining intact team of Riffians move on the truck shooting at the driver. It was here that the rifle armed tribesman scored a hit and sent the driver diving for cover in the cab. The rifleman was taken under fire from one of the Spanish troopers and shaken shortly thereafter. The Riffian leader then scored three activations and pressed onto the truck to successfully melee with the driver.

The game ended with a Riffian victory as they controlled the truck and as luck (good dice roll) would have it the tribal leader knew how to drive allowing him to make off with the truck after he had unceremoniously dumped the driver out of the cab.

Thanks to Jules and Steve for playing and to Miniature Market Cave Springs for their continued support.
