Big Muddy Historical Gaming Alliance – St. Louis Semi Regular Retirees Game Arena of Blood   04/09/26

A great turn out for our Semi Regular Retirees Game at Miniature Market Rock Hill featuring two “Arena of Blood” Games.

Andrew Biedenstein who was a play tester for the game system lead our trip to the Arenas of Rome for gladiatorial combat in this fast playing game system by Wiley Games was kind enough to explain the rules to everyone and get us all started.

Keith S, Tim L, Steve L, Jules R, D.J. and Gregg D. all grabbed a gladiator with various traits and jumped into one of our two arenas. One with 54mm figs (Andrew) and one with 28mm (Kevin) as the roaring crowds looked on.

This is a very easy to learn, fast playing game system (we got in multiple rounds and games during our session) which draws from the Wiley Games “Fistful of Lead” card draw mechanics for activation. It deviates from then into basing the attacks on several factors including the characteristics of the individual gladiators or animals.

Winner of the day seemed to be Jules R who found himself the last man (or animal) standing in several combats entertaining the crowds. Steve L found that while the bear had some impressive stats, it also drew the attention of multiple gladiators as they fought to put it down. His next game found him running a tiger which suffered the same fate as his bear.

Overall a fun day trying something simple, fast playing, lighthearted and different than our usual fare. We will certainly see the gladiators return for a more organized tournament in the not too distant future.

Thanks to all the players and to Miniature Market Rock Hill for  their continued support and we remind our community to shop local.
