Our Thursday Semi Regular Retirees Game slipped back to the age of swashbuckling as we broke out the “…And One For All Rules….” In our now three year continuing saga of Constance Bonancieux and the Three Musketeers.
In our previous episodes Constance who has been accused of treason (for acting as a go between for the Queen and The Duke of Buckingham) by Cardinal Richelieu first escaped, but then was tracked down and captured by the Red Guard.
While preparations for her show trial were being finalized in Paris (the verdict already decided) she was being held at the Convent of the Good Sisters (who were not at all happy about their home being used for this purpose) in the countryside. It was now up to D’Artagnan and his fellow Musketeers (Mark J and Tim L) to made good her escape. The stage was set…
Inside the courtyard The Red Guard (D.J. & Ravi) kept watch while two patrols of reservists remained vigilante outside the walls of the convent.
The game led off with a detachment of Musketeer Reservists making a probing attack on the Red Guard nearest the main entrance while the local vegetable farmer pulled up his wagon to make his deliveries. This raised the alert inside the compound and another probing attack to the rear of the convent supported this rise in alarm.
Rochefort called all his men in the compound to the door of the Sister’s quarters where Constance was being treated for her twisted ankle and they made ready for an assault.
Unknown to the agents of the Cardinal the Musketeers had slipped into the convent disguised as nuns and were already in control of the situation beyond the escaping part of the equation. Plancet had replaced the local farmer and was to bring the wagon as close as he could to them, but things took a little bit of a turn.
Plancet feeling his oats decided that he should do something heroic and drew his sword engaging one of the Red Guard. With the stealth moves out of the way Pothos tossed open the door and engaged Rochefort on the other side only to be bested by him and sent back in wounded.
Rochefort hurried into the chambers to engage the newly discovered foe and was promptly tossed back. One Red Guard got into the room engaging D’Artagnan and trying to corner him.
A reserve Red Guard took over the supply wagon trying to run down some Musketeers only to be tossed aside by another Reservist and finding the same treatment being given them.
This led to a merry chase as the wagon now under control of the Reserve Musketeers ended up in the front of the Sister’s chambers with Aramis leading Constance to the wagon and getting her on board to be led away by two of the Reserves and himself.
