It was a gloomy day outside with low gray clouds and mist, making it a perfect day to visit the delightfully warm surroundings of The Nerd Merchant at 124 West Jefferson Ave Suite 107 in downtown Kirkwood for the second day of Reindeer Wars 2024.
Our scenario was one of the critical days of the American War of Independence which found brave Patriots smuggling supplies and munitions along the Eastern Seaboard to support the Continental Army of George Washington.
Our Royal Navy Team charged with preventing the flow of gunpowder and food was made up of Harry, Mark & Dave. With the Continentals under the command of Steve L, Andrew and Steve T.
The British sailing from the North (nearest map edge) against the wind move in to engage the rebellious colonials above. In order to create a bit more chaos for the game adding uncertainly the rules were modified to add a card activation system which randomized the play.
The islands not only serve as barriers, but also designate the area of shallow water which would be hard navigation for the larger craft. The British also had two sentry posts with a single gun each on the flat topped outcroppings.
Gunnery overall was rather poor for both sides early on with few hits being scored. Things heated up as the water craft moved in close with canister being used liberally by both sides.
Some up close and personal action. We see the British Gundalow having been de-crewed by accurate fire from the American raft, which then saw its decks cleared by a boarding action.
The end game shows a massive traffic jam center board with the British 10 gunner about to fall to an American boarding action that took a couple of turns to develop. The game went to the Americans who got 12 pieces (out of 20) of supply off the table claiming victory.
