Semi Regular Retirees Game 06/12/25 Cruel Seas

We gathered at Miniature Market Cave Springs today for a refresher of Cruel Seas “Old Salts Edition” which had not been on the table for awhile in these parts. Our scenario was a meeting engagement between the coastal forces of the Kreigsmarine (Marty and Steve L) vs the Royal Navy (Nate, Jules and Mark W) somewhere in the North Sea in an area with a few rocky outcroppings sprinkled in just for good measure.

The British Forces of 4 Vosper, a Fairmile D and a Fairmile Minesweeper squared off against an R Boote, Two S-100s and Two S-38s.

Initial rounds of gunfire at high speed and long range generally failed to score any hits, except for Nate and his Dog Boat that placed a 6 pounder round squarely into Steve’s S-100 getting his attention.

Early in the game with the forces just coming onto the board.

Mark and Jules mix it up with Marty’s R Boote and S-38s with Jules taking advantage of the Vosper’s speed to get behind the German forces.

And then everyone followed Nate’s lead and elected to find out about the collision/ramming rules as above with Nate driving his Vosper squarely into Steve’s S Boote turning it tine a floating hazard to navigation for the next four turns.

Mark tried his luck with a ram by his Fairmile into the R Boote finding it to be one tough customer being built of metal rather than plywood.

Not wanting to be left out Steve choose to run his S Boote into the Fairmile causing considerable damage.

In a first for us, the next turn Steve backed his S-Boote out of the collision with the Fairmile straight back into Jules passing Vosper.

Overall a fun day of gaming with lots of laughs as Marty’s MG’s outscored his main guns on one occasion in a damage roll from what became known as his party boat. We saw a German victory for the day on the table but a win for all who attended as we all had a good time gaming.

Thanks to all the players and to the staff at Miniature Market Cave Springs for their continued support.

  1. Excellent, and excellent to see Jules R. in action again (a long-standing member of the St. Louis gaming scene)!
