Dave Schaffner has offered up some items on the workbench that will soon be on a game table near you.

Here’s a few legacy 20mm models that’ll be seeing some Bolt Action gaming coming up soon. In the works for these is a Normandy scenario, inspired by the German attacks down the N-13 highway against the 505th Paratroop RCT trying to hold Ste.-Mere-Eglise in the first days after the D-Day airborne landings. Looking over my game kit, I decided it was time to upgrade the German vehicles with some more appropriate 3-color camo schemes for the tabletop scene.

Having come up with a method to use dry pigments for camo striping on my 1/144th scale armor, I figured this would work even easier on these bigger models. The technique uses no air brushing, and after locking in the applied pigment colors with clear flat spray, the color edges are nicely feathered….and ready for battle.

Here’s how the completed SdKfz. 234/1 model looks after the pigments are sealed with an overspray of clear flat paint (the colors darken a bit, and their edges feather out slightly too).
Pretty rewarding results – and if you don’t like what’s achieved during the pigment application – just wash them off and try again.
Looks Superb! Thanks for sharing these techniques with the group.
That Dave S. guy does amazing work.
Kev and Marty – thanks guys!
